Leaders of Tomorrow

The Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship Fund is an initiative of PeerCorps and promoted by the John Harvey Lowery Foundation that assists children in getting the education they need to become the leaders and innovators of the future. We believe that every individual deserves the chance to receive the best possible education, and providing this opportunity to the children of Tanzania nations is key to further development. Tanzania, like any other country, depends very much on children and youth for its development, despite the difficulties they are often faced with. Many resource poor families are unable to provide an education for their children after primary school. There are a number of factors involved, but the inability to pay school fees is most frequently the direct cause. Some of these children may have lost their parents due to AIDS, injuries, malaria, etc., and do not have a support network of relatives to encourage and sponsor their education. Some children have no relatives at all, or are in the care of family members who are vulnerable themselves, such as grandparents.

The consequences of an abridged education can be seen in numerous ways--children may marry at an early age, be forced to take on low-wage physical labor or become street children or thieves. You can contribute to building up the futures of these children by joining a number of people who have pledged to donate to make a difference in the education of poor youth. Secondary school fees range from $50 to $4,000 (U.S. dollars) per year for each student. You can extend your assistance in many ways, financial or material, directly to the student, to the family, or through us. We will facilitate your actions.
