Photo-based risk assessment (photovoice) was a project that was
carried out during the summer of 2009. Its purpose was to utilize
photographic and narrative methods to explore youth perspectives on
the causes of childhood injuries in the urban environment.
We wanted to:
- Engage youth in Dar es Salaam in sharing their perspectives on
?what causes injuries in their urban environment?;
- Produce a series of digital stories made up of photographs taken
by Tanzanian youth with accompanying written and/or taped text;
- Use these collective stories to inform the agenda for a
community dialogue on childhood injuries;
- Stimulate and inform policy and public opinion through the wide
dissemination of these images and stories; and
- Further develop photovoice and digital story-telling techniques
for injury prevention, community development, and research
purposes.
